2 Silvers for GB at European Olympic Committee: European Games

Returning from the inaugural European Games Esports Championships in Katowice, Poland, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. Our Team Return with two more silver medals, marking this as our most successful campaign to date since 2021.

Our Rocket League team, represented by the UK Williams Resolve squad, demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork. Advancing to the playoffs after Finishing second in their group with three wins and one loss, they faced a very strong tetherlands squad in the grand final, earning them a silver medal.

In the women's eFootball tournament, Ireland's Emma 'Emzii' Rose showcased remarkable talent and resilience. Following her gold medal at the Commonwealth Esports Championships last year, Emzii's journey to the finals in Katowice was impressive but a narrow 3-2 defeat against Italy's Giorgia Casciaroli in the grand finals secured the silver medal is a testament to her dedication and skill.

Our eFootball Open competitor, Welsh player Cerith Dennis, faced tough competition and was unfortunately knocked out in the group stage. Nonetheless, his commitment and effort were commendable, and he remained an integral part of the team, switching into a coaching position after he was eliminated earlier in the tournament, supporting ‘Emzii’ on the main stage.

I also want to say a huge thank you to our performance advisor, AJ Davies, whose professionalism and support have been invaluable, Their contributions have been instrumental in our success aswell as a thanks to Jonas 'Jiggi_GG' Kontautas, for capturing these moments.

Participating in the first European Olympic-sanctioned esports competition, after an incredible Commonwealth Games in 2022 alongside 100 athletes from 28 countries, has been a historic experience. The recognition of esports on such a prestigious platform signifies a promising future for our discipline.
